SIU Investigating Peel Police Officer-Involved Crash in Brampton

Mississauga, ON (7 July, 2023) ---
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe a Peel Regional Police officer committed a criminal offence in connection with a collision that seriously injured a 57-year-old man in Brampton.
Just after midnight on March 11, 2023, the driver of a Honda CRV was making a left-hand turn at Main Street North when he was struck by the officer in a cruiser. The officer had his sirens on and was en route to the scene of a suspicious vehicle call. The driver of the Honda CRV was taken to hospital and diagnosed with fractures to his sternum and vertebrae. His wife and son were also in the vehicle and were not seriously injured.
