SIU Concludes Investigation into Brampton Collision

Case Number: 24-OVI-303

Mississauga, ON (8 November, 2024) ---
In the afternoon of July 12, 2024, a Peel Regional Police officer was performing traffic enforcement on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of Highway 407, near the Highway 410 interchange, when he clocked a Mercedes Benz travelling at 160 km/h. The officer proceeded to pursue the vehicle in an effort to stop it. The driver of the Mercedes responded by accelerating and weaving in and out of traffic to get away. At the Airport Road interchange, the driver took the off-ramp at speed and lost control of the vehicle, crashing on the east side of the road. The 25-year-old driver was arrested without incident at the scene and taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured back and right ankle. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the collision.
