SIU Concludes Investigation into Collision in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township

Case Number: 24-PVI-295

Mississauga, ON (5 November, 2024) ---
In the morning of July 8, 2024, an Ontario Provincial Police officer was travelling west on County Road 48 when his automated licence plate reader picked up an eastward Honda vehicle with an unregistered licence plate. The officer activated his emergency lights and accelerated after the Honda. At some point, the 21-year-old male driver of the Honda lost control and struck a hydro pole before crashing into the perimeter fence of a power station. The man was transported to hospital and diagnosed with factures of the spine and sternum. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the collision.
