SIU Concludes Investigation into Arrest of Man in Brantford

Case Number: 23-OCI-359

Mississauga, ON (29 December, 2023) ---
In the morning of September 2, 2023, Brantford Police Service officers were dispatched to check on a Jeep that was stationary in the area of the Grey Street and Market Street intersection. Upon arrival, officers saw a man slumped over the steering wheel. When the man awoke and saw police, he placed his vehicle in reverse and drove into the front of a cruiser, traversing a tire deflation devise. The Jeep accelerated away, and officers followed. Shortly after, the Jeep collided with another vehicle, and the Jeep driver fled on foot. Officers confronted the man, and a after a struggle, the 31-year-old man was arrested. He was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a fractured right wrist. SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s injury.
