Mississauga, ON (8 April, 2020) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal police-involved shooting of a 26-year-old man earlier this week in Brampton. One subject officer and four witness officers have been designated. A post-mortem was conducted this morning in Toronto.

The preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 6, 2020, Peel Regional Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Sawston Circle in relation to a domestic situation.
  • Soon after entering the home and going into the kitchen, officers encountered a 26-year-old man. There was an interaction which included the discharge of CEWs by two officers.
  • One officer then discharged his firearm multiple times.
  • The man was struck. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

From the scene, SIU investigators have recovered a knife, two conducted energy weapons (CEWs) and firearm-related evidence. The SIU is also in possession of the subject officer’s firearm. Interviews with civilian witnesses and police witnesses have taken place and are ongoing.
