SIU Concludes Investigation into Arrest of Man in Brampton

Case Number: 24-OCI-335

Mississauga, ON (6 December, 2024) ---
On August 7, 2024, Peel Regional Police officers in unmarked police vehicles boxed in a stolen vehicle that they had been tracking. Officers ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle, but he ignored their directions and continued to try breaking free of the blockade. Through the passenger side, two officers deployed their conducted energy weapons at the driver, allowing for the driver to be pulled out of the vehicle and handcuffed. The 25-year-old man was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken nose. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injury.
