SIU Investigating After Three Injured in Collision North of London

Mississauga, ON (6 December, 2024) ---
A 35-year-old man has died in hospital following a collision north of London. The Special Investigations Unit continues to investigate.

As previously reported:

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • Just before 11 p.m. on November 30, an officer initiated efforts to stop a motorist for a driving-related offence on Highway 4, near Medway Road, Arva, north of London.
  • The driver failed to stop and collided with another vehicle on Highway 4 near Croydon Drive. 
  • The male driver of the fleeing vehicle, and a male and female from the other vehicle were all taken to hospital in London. 
  • The male driver had life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on December 4.
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. One subject official has been designated at this time.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
