Mississauga, ON (10 November, 2024) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit commenced an investigation yesterday into a police-involved shooting in Hamilton. The 43-year-old man involved in the interaction with police has passed away in hospital.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 5 p.m. on November 9, 2024, Hamilton Police Service officers attended an apartment building on Main Street West after a resident contacted police to report a male acting in a threatening manner. On the 5th floor of the building, officers became involved in an interaction with a person of interest. Two officers discharged their firearms and the man was struck. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 12:47 a.m. on November 10, 2024.

Further information:
  • Based on information that has come to light in the course of the investigation, it does not appear that the man discharged a firearm.
  • A police officer was taken to hospital as well but has been released from hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
  • Six investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
  • At this time, two subject officials and two witness officials have been designated.
