SIU Concludes Investigation into London Officer Who Collided into Elderly Driver
Case Number: 24-OVI-054
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe a London Police Service officer committed a criminal offence in connection with a collision that seriously injured an 83-year-old woman. On February 7, 2024, the officer had lights and sirens on, en route to a call for a baby not breathing, when he entered an intersection on a red light northbound on Wharncliffe Road South. He struck the driver’s side of the senior’s vehicle head on. She was taken to hospital where she was diagnosed with several broken ribs.

- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
