SIU Appeals to Public for Information on Reopened G20 Investigation

Mississauga (7 December, 2010) --- Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is continuing its investigation into the custody injuries sustained by Mr. Adam Nobody on June 26, 2010 at the G20 in Toronto.

As part of the investigation the video taken by Mr. Bridge has been further examined and two still photographs have been captured from that video.

In photograph #1 there is a male with a bicycle at the right side of the photo.  He is wearing a bicycle helmet and has what appears to be a camera in his right hand.  He appears to pointing a camera at the group of officers to his right.

 

In photograph #2 there is a male wearing a baseball cap with a bicycle at the right side of the photo.  It appears he has a camera in his right hand.  He appears to pointing the camera at the group of officers to his right.
 


The SIU is interested in talking to both persons captured in these two photographs and would ask them to contact the unit.  In addition, anyone who may have information regarding this case is asked to call the SIU at 416-622-1806 or 1-800-787-8529 extension #1806.
 

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
