SIU Investigating Toronto Police in Relation to Injury Sustained by Man in Mississauga
No Criminal Charges Warranted in Relation to Arrest of Armed Robbery Suspect in Mississauga
- Peu avant 17 heures, le mardi 19 décembre 2017, des agents du Service de police de Toronto ont commencé à suivre un véhicule dans le secteur de Fairview Road West et de Hanson Road. La police avait des informations selon lesquelles un occupant du véhicule avait été impliqué dans un vol de banque.
- Sur la rue Hurontario, à la hauteur de Rathburn Road, le véhicule a été impliqué dans une collision avec quatre autres véhicules. L’homme s’est enfui du véhicule, mais a été arrêté peu après.
- Il a été conduit à l’hôpital pour le traitement d’une blessure grave.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
