L’UES clôt son enquête sur un accident de la circulation à Ottawa

Mississauga (16 June, 2015) --- Se fondant sur l’examen, par l’Unité des enquêtes spéciales (UES), d’un incident survenu au début du mois à Ottawa, le directeur de l’UES, Tony Loparco, a mis fin à l’enquête.
 
L’examen de l’UES a déterminé que vers 9 h 20, dans la matinée du jeudi 4 juin 2015, un agent de police se rendait sur les lieux d’un appel, la sirène et les gyrophares de son véhicule allumés. À l’intersection du chemin Hazeldean et de la promenade Huntmar, il y a eu une collision entre son véhicule de police et un autre véhicule. L’agent et la conductrice de l’autre véhicule, âgée de 52 ans, ont été transportés à l’Hôpital d’Ottawa, Campus Civic. Les rapports médicaux ayant révélé que personne n’avait subi de blessures graves dans cette affaire, il a été mis fin à l’enquête de l’UES.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

• consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
• depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
• publicly report the results of its investigations
