Mississauga, ON (2 November, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 14-year-old boy was seriously injured during his arrest at a Toronto transit station last month.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • On October 7, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., a group of youths reportedly failed to pay for their transit fares at the TTC Finch West station. Two officers confronted them and there was an interaction with one of the boys.
  • The boy was arrested and released. The boy later went to hospital and was diagnosed with a serious, non-life threatening injury.
  • On October 9, 2026, police learned of the boy’s serious injury and reported it to the SIU the same day. The SIU was notified and launched an investigation.
Three investigators have been assigned to the case. One subject official and one witness official have been designated at this time.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php

All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
