On May 22, 2026, Windsor Police Service officers attended at the scene of a reported knife assault and confronted a 35-year-old man at the back of a row of townhouses on Rose-Ville Garden Drive. When the man rushed at officers with a knife in hand, shots were fired. When the man rose to his feet and advanced on the officers a second time, the man was dropped again, this time by a volley of three shots. The man attempted to get up from the ground but stumbled back down. The officers repeatedly directed him to discard and not touch the knife, and that they wanted to help him. Shortly after, the man rose to his feet and advanced on the officers a third time, still in possession of the knife. Three rounds were fired at the man and a CEW was discharged. The man fell to the grass. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that any of the three officers who discharged their firearms committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s death.
