SIU Seeking Witnesses of Collision Involving Kingston Police Cruiser on Saturday

Mississauga, ON (30 June, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is seeking anyone who may have witnessed a collision involving a Kingston Police cruiser that resulted in the serious injury of a 70-year-old woman on Saturday morning.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At about 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, a Kingston Police officer travelling to a call in a marked cruiser and the driver of a Subaru collided in the area of Brock and Victoria streets. 
  • The driver and passenger in the Subaru as well as the officer were taken to hospital. The driver of the Subaru was diagnosed with a serious, non-life-threatening injury.
  • No other injuries were reported.
Three investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case. One subject official has been designated at this time.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
