Mississauga, ON (5 April, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after two people were seriously injured in a collision after a driver fled a traffic stop in Toronto last night.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 6:20 p.m. on April 4, two Toronto Police Service officers in a cruiser were en route to an unrelated call when they saw the driver of a Honda Civic speeding on The West Mall.
  • The officers attempted to stop the Civic before the driver collided with an SUV at The East Mall and Bloor Street West.
  • The male driver, 26, fled and was arrested a short time later. He was not seriously injured.
  • A man and woman in the SUV were taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case. One subject official and one witness official has been designated at this time.
