Mississauga, ON (1 April, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a male youth earlier this week in Ottawa.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 12:30 p.m. on March 30, 2026, Ottawa Police Service officers were patrolling the area of the ByWard Market District when they observed a male youth who was wanted for several offences.
  • When officers approached the male, he fled on foot and the officers pursued him.
  • In the area of York Street and Beausoleil Drive, the youth was arrested following an altercation with officers.
  • At hospital, he was diagnosed with a serious injury.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have witnessed the arrest in the York Street/Beausoleil Drive area – or who may have CCTV or dashcam video – to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php

All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
