SIU Concludes Investigation into Man’s Nose Broken During Arrest in Newmarket

Case Number: 24-OCI-055

Mississauga, ON (6 June, 2024) ---
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe two York Regional Police officers committed a criminal offence in connection with the serious injury of a 46-year-old man. On February 6, 2024, officers arrested two men for break and enter in the area of Srigley Street and Alexander Road in Newmarket. During the arrest of one of the men, evidence suggests he resisted and officers struck him in the torso and head before he was handcuffed.
