Mississauga, ON (17 May, 2024) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest yesterday morning of a man in Hamilton.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 10:30 a.m. on May 16, 2024, two plainclothes officers, travelling in an unmarked police vehicle, observed an SUV travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Barton Street.
  • The officers followed the SUV, which eventually entered a parking lot at 81 Kinrade Avenue, in the area of Sherman Avenue North and Barton Street East.
  • The officers approached the vehicle and removed the 37-year-old male driver from the vehicle to affect an arrest.
  • A struggle ensued between officers and the man, and they eventually were able to handcuff him.
  • When the man complained of pain, he was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Three investigators have been assigned to the case.
